Technology: Sphygmo Gained from fellowship: The fellowship provided me with incredible opportunities, including acquiring technical skills, creating a medical device design, leading clinical trials, and working in a hospital in Malawi.
After graduating from The City College of New York with a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering, Laura Sandoval worked as a Rice 360° Global Health Fellow from 2014-2016. Her work focused on developing a low-cost ambulatory sphygmomanometer designed for monitoring women with preeclampsia which she helped lead through design iterations and clinical trials in maternity wards in Houston and Malawi. Laura is currently working at the Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics (CU Boulder) where she writes data processing code for various satellite missions.
