CITEC research funds available for early cancer detection technologies used in medically underserved settings

Accepting Applications for 2024 Funding

On February 20, the Center for Innovation and Translation of Point-of-Care Technologies for Equitable Cancer Care (CITEC) announced its solicitation of 2-3 sub-awards for a total of $150,000 USD for early cancer detection technologies. CITEC targets low-resource settings globally and prioritizes point-of-care (POC) tests for enhanced cancer screening and diagnosis. The initiative seeks to support and accelerate the development and adoption of new technologies to improve the early detection of pre-cancer and cancer in low-resource settings globally.

CITEC Accelerated Cancer Detection Technology Awards & Timeline

CITEC will support improvements to POC technologies for early cancer detection. The CITEC solicitation prioritizes support for POC tests to improve screening, early detection and diagnosis of pre-cancers and early cancers that arise in epithelial tissues in organ sites accessible for early detection, because this is where point-of-care technologies can have the most immediate impact. High-priority organ sites include the uterine cervix, gastrointestinal tract (esophagus, stomach, colon, rectum, anus), and oral cavity. Priority will be given to platform technologies with the potential for more than one organ site.
