Team “At Your Cervix” Wins at National Institutes of Health DEBUT Competition

In August, Rice 360°’s design team “At Your Cervix” earned the prestigious prize for Healthcare Technologies in Low-Resource Settings, in the National Institutes of Health 9th annual Design by Biomedical Undergraduate Teams (DEBUT) competition, including a $15k award, from the National Institutes of Health with funds from the National Institute of Minority and Health Disparities.

Universally Friendly Obturator from Team “At Your Cervix”

Team At Your Cervix’s Universally Friendly Obturator (UFO) is an innovative, low-cost, 3D-printed applicator that helps to simplify treatment of late-stage cervical cancer, especially in low-resource settings. Team members included Krithika Kumar (’20), Elisa Arango (’20), Sanika Rane (’20), Susannah Dittmar (’20) and Lauren Payne (’21). The team has been working with doctors at Baylor College of Medicine and Harris County Health Center to advance the technology.
